How To Smash Your Reading Goals

So it's the new year. You've got a TBR list 10 miles long. You've set a reading goal, and you still have no idea how you're going to find the TIME! I can't speak for everyone. We all have to fit reading into our own busy schedules and figure out what works for us. But I can tell you how I make the time to read 3 - 4 books a week.

Read while you rest.

I do a lot of reading on my phone at night. Reading apps are great for reading in the dark, and terrible for my sleep routine. My main reading apps are Libby and Kindle, but there are TONS out there. I literally just lay there and read until I fall asleep at least 4 nights a week. Sometimes, I wake up before my alarm in the morning, and rather than get sucked into social media, I read until the alarm goes off. You can absolutely do this with physical books, but if you get used to reading on your phone, your book count is bound to go up because it's just so convenient!

Read while you work.

Audiobooks are your friend. If you are busy, invest in some earbuds and let someone else read all the books to you. I definitely read more books than audiobooks, but I love a good audiobook for a road trip or while I'm crafting or doing housework. Audiobooks are great for multitaskers, and you might find that the busier you are, the more you read! Pro tip: If you don't want to subscribe to something like Audible, you can use your library card and the Libby app to download all the audiobooks you want for free!

Read while you wait.

Do you have kids and have to suffer through the school pick up line every afternoon? Do you sit in the waiting room for doctor visits? Waiting for your online grocery order in the parking lot? Take a book with you everywhere (again, much more convenient if you're reading on your phone)! Grab your book OR phone and squeeze in a few pages. If you read on your phone, will people assume you're on social media? Probably. But do we care? No, we don't.

Read what you like.

Ultimately, if you want to read, you'll make the time. But if you're trying to read what's popular or what you should be reading and not what you want to be reading, you won't be motivated. So, the best tip I can give you is find what you like and read it like it's going out of style.

Good luck with your reading goals this year! Come chat about your latest reads with us on our Facebook Page.
