It's the end of the month! Time for a recap. Here's what we've been reading at The Stacks this month.
In the Shadow of the Mountain: Exodus by Cliff Graham
4/5 stars
Description: Biblical fiction about the plagues on Egypt as told from the perspective of an Egyptian.
Loved: the epic fight scenes and the retelling of a classic bible story.
Did not love: The storyline didn't match up occasionally, and the ending was little abrupt in my opinion.
Days of Elijah by John Noble
3/5 stars
Description: Biblical fiction about the life of the prophet Elijah.
Loved: The narrative of Elijah and the miracles he performed. The unexpected humor in this story.
Did not love: The language used was way too modern for bible times, it really took me out of the story.
Colors of Deceit by Sharon Keathley
4/5 stars
Description: A detective with synesthesia investigates a possible murder in an operating room.
Loved: The interesting addition of synesthesia to the overdone genre of police procedurals. And the highly descriptive, but easy to understand details of ER practices.
Did not love: There were a lot of loose ends left at the end of the book. (But there are more books that I am definitely going to read!)
Faith Moves Mountains by Jenny Carlisle
4/5 Stars
Description:
Hometown hero and rodeo pageant queen slowly fall in love while trying to figure out what to do with their lives.
Loved: The genuine small town life that the author captured so accurately, the mystery, and the characters (especially John K.).
Did not love: I reallllllllly wanted John K. to punch someone and it just never happened. Ugh.
